The man captured in a widely circulated video brutally assaulting a woman believed to be his wife has been remanded into police custody together with two of his siblings by an Accra Magistrate Court.

John Odartey Lamptey, also known as Nii Adjei, appeared before the court attached to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

He was charged with Physical Assault, contrary to Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).

His two siblings, Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey, were also arraigned on charges of Conspiracy to Commit Crime, specifically “threat of harm,” contrary to Sections 23(1) and 74 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

According to the police, the two siblings attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and sharing the viral video that exposed the assault.

The court remanded all three accused persons into police custody. They are scheduled to reappear on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

In a press release signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Ghana Police Service renewed its appeal for information on the whereabouts of the victim.

“The Ghana Police Service would like to once again urge the victim or anyone with credible information on her whereabouts to contact the nearest Police station,” the statement said, adding that all information provided will be treated with the “utmost confidentiality.”

The viral video, which sparked nationwide outrage last week, showed the suspect repeatedly slapping and kicking the woman while she lay on the floor crying for mercy.
