Husband and wife arrested for beating their daughter to death over food

A man and his wife have been arrested by police in Kokrobite, Ga South Municipality, for allegedly beating their 13-year-old daughter to death after accusing her of eating her younger brother’s food.

The suspects, Issah Mohammed and his wife Yaa Grace, allegedly subjected the teenager, identified as Celestine, to severe physical assault on the evening Issah returned from work.

According to a report by Adomonline, the incident began when the stepmother, Yaa Grace, informed Issah that Celestine had eaten food meant for her younger brother.

Enraged, Issah reportedly used a cane, a shovel, and a cutlass to beat the girl, causing serious internal injuries.

Eyewitnesses say after the brutal beating, the couple locked Celestine in a separate room without food or water. The teenager reportedly died the following day from her injuries.

Neighbours who became suspicious after not seeing the girl for some time alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the couple.

Background checks revealed that Issah Mohammed had previously divorced Celestine’s biological mother due to his repeated abusive behaviour toward the family.

A relative of the biological mother, Justina Acquah, expressed deep anger over the incident, describing Issah as having a long history of violence and demanding that justice be served for the deceased child.

The Kokrobite District Police Command has commenced investigations into the matter. The body of Celestine has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police say the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, and will be arraigned as soon as investigations are concluded.
