The Volta Regional Police Command has destroyed six hundred (600) fertiliser sacks of compressed Indian hemp (marijuana) weighing a total of 47,530 kilograms and with an estimated street value of GH¢4.2 billion.

The narcotic exhibits, seized in 2022 in the case of The Republic v. Yao Kwadwo @Wallako and two others, were burnt on Monday, November 17, 2025, at about 10:30 pm at the Klefe dumping site in Ho, following an order from the Ho Circuit Court after the conclusion of the trial.

According to a report by Asaaase Radio, the destruction exercise was carried out under heavy security and supervised by Circuit Court Registrar Moses Dzanfi, State Attorney Joseph Opusomah, Narcotics Control Commission representative Daniel John Pekyi, and Environmental Protection Agency official Emmanuel Mensah Gbekor, in the presence of police personnel, National Security operatives, and members of the media.

In a press statement signed by Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Volta Regional Police Command, the police expressed gratitude to the judiciary, NACOC, EPA, National Security, the media, and all stakeholders for their continued support in the fight against narcotics, reiterating the command’s commitment to rid the Volta Region and Ghana at large of illicit drugs.
