The Ministry of Roads and Highways, through the Ghana Highway Authority, has begun emergency repairs on the Lakplakpa river bridge on the Accra-Tema motorway.

The ministry disclosed in a release signed by Nasir Ahmad Yartey, Head of the Public Relations Unit, on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, that the exercise is a result of the failure of a steel deck that was replaced in 2014 on one span of the two-span bridge, which has now affected the steel beams and welds in the bridge.

Following the discovery of this flaw, the ministry stated that it is critical to repair that section of the bridge as soon as possible to prevent the loss of lives that may occur on the road as a result of this flaw.

According to the release, the contractor has begun comprehensive work on the road as well as repairing modernized steel on the affected section of the bridge in order to carry out the project which should be done on Friday, June 17, 2022.

They also advised drivers and motorists to use alternative roads such as Fertilizer Road, Tsui Bleoo Road, Spintex Road 1, Teshie Link, Adogon Highway, and Burma Camp Roads 1 & 2 and adhere to directional signs as part of their measures to alleviate traffic inconveniences on the road, and the contractors working on the Beach Road have been directed to open the dual carriageway section of the road to traffic.

Finally, the ministry apologized for the inconvenience caused by the work on that section of the highway.
