The Ghana Police Service has arrested twenty-seven (27) suspects in a major intelligence-led operation targeting drug peddling and associated criminal activities in the Northern Region.
A press release issued on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, by the Northern Regional Police Public Affairs Unit and signed by C/Insp. Alhassan Luckman Niendow (Regional PRO/NR) said the arrests were carried out jointly by the Northern Regional Police Command and the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team.
The suspects were picked up during coordinated swoops on 19th November 2025 at known drug hotspots in and around Tamale.
Among those arrested and named in the statement are Iddrisu Abdul Bassit, Iddrisu Sadick, Yawuza Hishan, Yakubu Yussif, Alhassan Abukari, Mutaru Daniel Fisco, Ibrahim Abdul Wakil, Hawa Abdul Rahman, Latifa Iddrisu, Mariam Fuseini, Ibrahim Sadia, Alima Iddrisu, Issah Latifa, and others yet to be identified.
Police recovered quantities of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis packaged in polythene bags, as well as five motorbikes believed to have been used to facilitate the illicit trade.
Further intelligence-driven operations across other parts of the Tamale metropolis resulted in additional arrests, bringing the total figure to 27.
On Friday, 21st November 2025, ten of the suspects, comprising five females and four males, were arraigned before the Tamale Circuit Court on charges of possession of narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
One other suspect was separately charged with unlawful possession of arms and ammunition. All pleaded not guilty and were granted bail by the court.
The remaining eighteen suspects have been remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations. The case has been handed over to the Northern Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit.
The operation forms part of a sustained nationwide campaign by the Ghana Police Service to disrupt the narcotics trade and related crimes.
The police administration urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to help rid communities of drug peddling and substance abuse.
