Chief of Staff Julius Debrah on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, inaugurated an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to supervise Ghana’s preparations and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Jubilee House in Accra.
Speaking at the event, Mr Debrah charged the committee members to execute their mandate with utmost integrity, diligence and total commitment in order to ensure seamless coordination ahead of the global tournament.
He further urged the team to think beyond football and seize the broader economic, tourism and diplomatic opportunities that hosting and participating in the World Cup presents for Ghana.
The Black Stars booked their place at the 2026 Mundial – their fifth appearance since 2006 – with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Comoros on October 12, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The committee is composed of Stan Xoese Dogbe from the Office of the President, Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Youth Development George Opare, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Yusif Jajah, Deputy Minister for Finance Ampem Nyarkoh, Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, Deputy National Security Coordinator Elizabeth Yankah, legendary former footballer Abedi Ayew Pele, Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports Mrs Wilhelmina Asamoah, and one member yet to be announced.
In a related development, the government has earmarked GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ campaign at the 2026 World Cup. Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson made the announcement on November 13, 2025, while presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.
