Okada rider jailed 10 years for defiling 5-year-old boy

A 23-year-old commercial motorbike (Okada) rider, Baffour Kwakye, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Bekwai Circuit Court for defiling a five-year-old boy at Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.

The convict, who pleaded guilty after the trial commenced, was handed a 120-month jail term by the court presided over by His Honour Isaac Appietu.

Presenting the facts of the case, Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum told the court that the victim, a Class One pupil, lived in the same neighbourhood as Kwakye.

On May 6, 2025, Kwakye sent the little boy on an errand and later lured him into his room with the promise of watching videos on his mobile phone. It was in the room that the sexual assault took place.

The victim later narrated the ordeal to his mother, Akosua Kisiwaa, who promptly reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service at Manso Nkwanta.

A medical report issued after examination at a health facility confirmed that the child had been defiled.

Kwakye went into hiding but was arrested on July 20, 2025, at Manso Nkran in connection with a separate theft case. Upon checks, police discovered the pending defilement report and transferred him to Manso Nkwanta for further action.

In his caution statement to the police, the convict admitted committing the offence.

After hearing the prosecution’s case and the convict’s guilty plea, the court convicted and sentenced him accordingly.
