Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has scheduled a 12-hour shutdown of the Weija Water Treatment Plant on Thursday, December 4, 2025, to enable emergency repairs on a critically damaged transmission pipeline.
The company, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said one of the major pipelines that conveys treated water from the Weija Plant to western parts of Greater Accra has developed severe perforations and risks total collapse if urgent repairs are not carried out.
The shutdown will run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Communities expected to experience interruption in water supply include Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Mallam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, the North Industrial Area, and surrounding areas.
GWL has assured residents that water production and supply will resume immediately after the repair works are completed.
The company has urged households, institutions, and businesses in the affected areas to store sufficient water before Thursday morning to minimise inconvenience.
“We regret the inconvenience that may arise as a result of the shutdown,” the statement said.
