‘I have never dreamt about the OSP job’ – What Martin Kpebu said hours before his detention by OSP

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has strongly denied that his persistent calls for the removal of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng are driven by any personal interest in occupying the office himself.

In an exclusive interview on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 – just hours before he was detained by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) – Mr Kpebu dismissed the suggestion with visible irritation.

“Not at all. How can I be envious of him? The OSP job is not something I even dream of. I have never dreamt about the OSP job,” he told The1957News.

He argued that anyone genuinely eyeing the position would adopt a far more discreet strategy.

“Not everyone is that smart, but I am not such a fool. If I were ever interested in the position, the least thing I would do is hide behind some people and motivate them to front his removal with the motive of me getting the position. But once I am openly leading the charge, that shows that I am never interested in the OSP job,” he stressed.

Mr Kpebu also doubled down on his criticism of Mr Agyebeng’s competence, citing the former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s departure from Ghana in January 2025 as a prime example of failure.

“Kissi Agyebeng is very incompetent at his job. Someone who can watch on for Ofori-Atta to run away? He claims he had the information, and the OSP by law has police powers – so what stopped him from calling for help when he learned Ofori-Atta was fleeing?” he quizzed.

The interview took place shortly before Mr Kpebu honoured a third invitation by the OSP to answer questions over his allegations of corruption and conflict of interest against Mr Agyebeng.

In the, Mr Kpebu warned ahead of the meeting that he would no longer honour another invitation if the OSP insisted on having its own officials investigate complaints made against their boss.

He insisted the process lacked independence and created terrible optics for the anti-corruption institution.

“What in very serious institutions they do is that, one, either you give it to a board—thus, if the board appears truly independent—or, two, you set up a special committee outside the organisation, a committee that has no relations to the institution. So that they will be independent,” he said.

Minutes after the interview ended, Mr Kpebu proceeded to the OSP premises. Sources later confirmed to The1957News that he has since been detained by the OSP after hours of interrogation.
