Three people have been confirmed dead and 30 others injured following a head-on collision at Mampong Abuontem in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
The accident involved a Toyota Coaster minibus with registration number GV 1720-20, which was transporting students and staff from Ejura Agric College, and an Opel Astra saloon car registered AS 3838 W.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Opel Astra lost control on a curve and veered into the path of the oncoming minibus, resulting in a devastating impact. The Opel Astra was completely mangled, while the minibus sustained extensive damage to its windscreen, front bumper, and fenders.
The Mampong Fire Station received the emergency call at 5:38 PM, and a rescue team led by Leading Fireman (LFM) Emmanuel Kwami was promptly dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, all injured occupants — including 26 students, three staff members, and the minibus driver — had already been transported to hospital by ambulance. The driver of the Opel Astra was extricated deceased from the wreckage and handed over to the police, while two other occupants of the vehicle later succumbed to their injuries.
Of the 30 injured victims, 26 were treated and discharged, with four remaining in critical condition at the Mampong Government Hospital.
The fire service crew cleared debris from the roadway to restore traffic flow. Authorities have urged motorists to maintain their vehicles properly, avoid overtaking on curves, and adhere strictly to road safety measures to prevent such tragedies.
