Sinful and disrespectful – Miracles Aboagye condemns NDC’s U-turn on presidential jet

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for the 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has described the Mahama administration’s decision to purchase a new $60 million presidential jet as “a sin, a crime and disrespectful” to Ghanaians, barely 11 months after the NDC fiercely opposed a similar move.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, December 7, 2025, Mr Aboagye accused the government of hypocrisy for proceeding with the acquisition of a luxurious Falcon 6X aircraft at a time when citizens are grappling with over 28% increases in utility tariffs, rising cost of living, and mass termination of jobs.

“You said renting a plane was wrong because the current presidential jet was in pristine condition. You said buying a plane was wrong because the country was poor. The country listened to you, trusted and voted massively for you. Then under 11 months, you turn around to buy a more expensive presidential jet for the President to bath and cook in the air?” Mr Aboagye wrote.

“Spending $60 million to buy a presidential jet at this time when you spoke against it barely 11 months ago is a sin, a crime, disrespectful to the people. What happened to honour and principles?,” he added.

Parliament last week approved a $60 million agreement between the Ministry of Defence and Dassault Aviation for the Falcon 6X, as well as a €125 million deal with Airbus Helicopters for one H160 and three H175 helicopters.

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson told Parliament the purchases form part of a broader re-equipping programme for the Ghana Air Force, citing the ageing fleet and high maintenance costs of the current ageing fleet.

Mr Aboagye, however, insisted the timing is insensitive, pointing out that nurses and teachers promised automatic employment are still jobless, while thousands of young Ghanaians have lost their jobs under the new administration.

“Ghana is no more poor? The country is a rich country now?” he asked.

He urged the NDC government to “stop the jokes,” end the “grace period” and focus on delivering the promises made to Ghanaians during the 2024 campaign.

“We are saddled with you for the next three years with no option and we have no choice than to remind you of your sacred promises in the interest of the state,” he added.
