High Court drops Osei Assibey’s bail from GH¢630 million to GH¢120 million

The Accra High Court has further reduced the bail amount for former Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, from GH¢630 million to GH¢120 million with two sureties.
The ruling, delivered on Thursday, December 11, 2025, marks the second downward variation of Mr Assibey’s bail conditions since he was first charged with stealing, money laundering and causing financial loss to the state.
Initially granted bail at GH¢800 million, the amount was later lowered to GH¢630 million before Thursday’s significant reduction to GH¢120 million. Each of the two sureties is now required to justify with landed property worth GH¢80 million.
Other conditions, including the seizure of his passport and his placement on the no-flight list, remain in force.
During proceedings, prosecutors opposed the defence’s application for variation, arguing that the gravity of the offences, which carry potential prison terms of up to 25 years, warranted the higher bail sum.
Counsel for Mr Assibey, however, maintained that the previous amounts were exorbitant and practically amounted to a refusal of bail.
The former NSA boss is facing trial over alleged financial irregularities during his tenure at the Authority. The case has been adjourned to a later date.
