One person has been confirmed dead following a swarm of bees that attacked supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kpandai District shortly after a campaign event on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
The NDC’s Kpandai Constituency Secretary, Mr. Robert, confirmed the incident to Citi News, stating that the attack occurred immediately after the party had concluded its campaign activities.
The deceased, identified as a chief from one of the communities in the district, was riding a motorbike when the swarm of bees suddenly attacked him.
In the resulting panic, he dismounted and tried to escape but was beaten to death amid the confusion.
Some residents have linked the incident to spiritual causes, terming it a curse, but authorities are yet to respond to these speculations.
Investigations are underway to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the tragic event.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of intense political campaigning in Kpandai ahead of a parliamentary election rerun scheduled by the Electoral Commission for Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
The rerun follows a High Court ruling that annulled the 2024 parliamentary election results in the constituency due to irregularities in the collation process.
The same candidates from the 2024 polls, representing the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are expected to contest, with both parties ramping up efforts in the area.
