Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two young suspects for the robbery and murder of a 28-year-old woman, Silver Ngozi, at Asokore Mampong near Kumasi.

The suspects, identified as Farouk Iddris, a 20-year-old motorbike mechanic and rider, and Salim Mohammed, a 19-year-old motorbike mechanic and rickshaw rider, were apprehended on December 12, 2025, at about 9:00 pm during a joint intelligence-led operation by the regional police headquarters and the anti-robbery unit at their hideout in Aboabo, Kumasi.

Briefing the media, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Arthur Osei Akoto, stated that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects robbed the deceased and one of them allegedly stabbed her with a knife, causing her death.

A search in Farouk Iddris’ room uncovered a machete, knives, and other offensive weapons. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to the robbery, with Salim Mohammed, who was the pillion rider on the day of the incident, identifying a zigzag-edged knife as the weapon used to stab the victim.

An iPhone 11 Pro belonging to the deceased, stolen during the attack, has been recovered and retained as evidence. The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with further investigations and will soon be arraigned before court.

In a related development, police have arrested three additional suspects linked to a series of street robberies in Asokore Mampong, KNUST, Kenyasi, Bosore, Duase, Antoa, Mayanka, Ayeduase, and surrounding communities.

The trio — Abdul Fatawu, alias “UN,” 22; Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa,” 24; and Samak Hadi, alias “Toronto,” 21 — were picked up from their hideouts in Aboabo, where police retrieved 59 iPhones, six Android phones, four tablets, and five laptops.

All three have confessed to the crimes in their caution statements and remain in custody as investigations continue.

DCOP Akoto appealed to victims of robberies in the mentioned areas to report to the Ashanti Regional Police Command to aid ongoing probes. He reassured the public of the command’s dedication to upholding law and order, while urging citizens to provide timely and credible information to help fight crime.
