Otumfuo to present his Bawku mediation report to President Mahama today

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to present a comprehensive report on the Bawku peace mediation process to President John Dramani Mahama today, marking a key milestone in efforts to resolve the long-standing chieftaincy conflict in the area.

President Mahama, earlier in 2025, entrusted Otumfuo Osei Tutu II with the responsibility of leading mediation initiatives to bring lasting peace to the Bawku municipality, which has been plagued by the dispute for decades.

The mediation process commenced in April, with the Asantehene initially holding separate engagements with leaders and representatives from the conflicting sides to build confidence and lay the groundwork for direct dialogue.

Following a brief suspension, the talks resumed in May 2025 and have since made notable progress, contributing to a significant reduction in tensions and a period of relative calm in the Bawku area.

The report to be presented today is expected to detail the achievements recorded so far, highlight remaining challenges, and offer recommendations to guide the government’s subsequent actions towards achieving sustainable peace.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining heightened security in the region to support law enforcement and ensure stability as the mediation efforts continue.
