NPP flagbearer race: Bryan Acheampong projects 49% first round, 75% round two victory

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful and Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has expressed strong confidence in his bid for the party’s presidential candidacy ahead of the January 2026 primaries.

Appearing on UTV’s morning show on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Dr Acheampong revealed internal profiling that places him at approximately 49% support among delegates, with about 23,000 undecided voters remaining.

“The profiling we have done, even though it puts me ahead, it puts me around 49% with about 23,000 people still undecided. I am hoping that I can move a lot of the undecided to my side so that I can cross the 50%,” he stated.

Dr Acheampong, who is vying to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections following the party’s defeat in 2024, added that even if he falls short of an outright first-round victory, he is poised for a dominant performance in a potential runoff.

“But if I am unable to cross the 50% which I will be first in the first round, I can attain 75% in the second round,” he projected.

The Abetifi MP’s comments come amid an intensifying race for the NPP flagbearership, with the presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Dr Acheampong, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, has been actively campaigning across the country, garnering endorsements from grassroots supporters and regional executives as he positions himself as a unifying figure to rebuild the party after its 2024 electoral setback.

The NPP is preparing to select a candidate capable of challenging the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 polls, with several aspirants, including former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong in the contest.
