The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects following a viral video depicting the physical abuse of a young girl at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, December 18”6, 2025, the police, through the Inspector-General of Police’s (IGP) Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, confirmed the arrests of suspect Grace Mensah and Godfred Osei Akoto, the man seen in the video assaulting the child.
Swift investigations led the team to Agona Jamasi, where Grace Mensah (aged 75) was arrested. Further operations resulted in the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on December 6, 2025, the victim reportedly went out and failed to return home. Suspect Osei Akoto told police that he had authorisation from the grandmother to assault her.
The victim, an 11-year-old girl, has since been rescued, while both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit for further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its firm commitment to protecting children and dealing decisively with all forms of abuse.
