Early talks of new NDC flagbearer an insult to President Mahama – Fifi Kwetey

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has described early discussions about potential successors to President John Dramani Mahama as an insult to both the party and the President.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face programme on Tuesday, December 16, Mr. Kwetey criticised party members expressing interest in future presidential ambitions, saying such talks are premature and distracting from governance.

“Especially in the first year after you have won power, any conversation regarding interest in running for power, I find it personally an insult to the NDC as a whole, an insult even to President Mahama because we have barely come into office,” he stated.

He emphasised that after eight years in opposition, the party’s focus should be on fulfilling campaign promises to Ghanaians and rewarding loyal members.

“We spent eight years in opposition, made promises to people, and we have taken over power. The promises that we made to the country, we are now implementing them. There are promises we made to our own political people, that is, people who have worked for us. We have not even come to 10 or 20 percent of our accomplishments,” Kwetey added.

The NDC General Secretary stressed that the immediate priority is to support the government in delivering results, ensuring accountability among ministers and chief executives, and upholding party discipline, rather than debating succession.
