The Koforidua High Court has dismissed an election petition challenging the victory of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, affirming that his mandate from the 2024 parliamentary elections was lawfully obtained.
In a social media post, Akuapem North MP, Samuel Awuku, announced the court’s decision, describing it as the culmination of a stressful legal battle.
“This morning, the Koforidua High Court dismissed the election petition against the duly elected Member of Parliament, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe, affirming that his mandate was lawfully and validly obtained,” Mr Awuku wrote.
“One by one, we will defend our territory and protect the seats we legitimately occupy. It has been a truly stressful journey, but I am grateful that my brother can now fully focus on serving the good people of Suhum without any further distractions,” the former National Organizer of the NPP added.
Mr Awuku extended heartfelt congratulations to Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, and commended Lawyer Gary Nimako and the NPP Legal Team for their efforts.
“Congratulations as well to Lawyer Gary Nimako and the NPP Legal Team for a job well done,” he stated.
Frank Asiedu Bekoe was declared winner of the Suhum seat in the 2024 elections with 16,855 votes, beating his closest rivals amid a contentious contest that saw a recount by the Electoral Commission.
The dismissal allows the MP to continue his parliamentary duties without the overhang of the legal challenge, which had stemmed from allegations of irregularities in the poll made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Prince Kwadwo Addo Tabiri.
