The National Election Security Taskforce has engaged with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee in preparation for the party’s presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
The meeting held on Thursday , December 18, 2025, focused on formally notifying the taskforce about the upcoming internal election and sharing critical details such as the timetable, voting locations across the country’s constituencies, and the overall scope of activities to aid effective security planning and deployment.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who chairs the taskforce, emphasised the importance of such pre-election engagements for fostering coordination and readiness during party primaries.
He assured the NPP committee that the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with other security agencies, would partner with the Electoral Commission and the party to implement robust measures ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and credible process.
The IGP further reaffirmed the taskforce’s dedication to collaborating with all stakeholders to uphold law and order, as well as public safety, throughout the pre-election, election day, and post-election periods.
The engagement comes as the NPP prepares to elect its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, following the party’s decision earlier in 2025 to hold the primaries on January 31, 2026.
The election will feature five candidates namely Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Kwabena Agyepong, Bryan Acheampong and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
