Six people, including a three-month-old baby, have died in a devastating midnight fire that engulfed an apartment at Manhyia Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The tragic incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, claiming the lives of the victims who were reportedly trapped inside the burning structure.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, with investigations ongoing.
Assembly Member for the Abuakwa Manhyia Electoral Area, Evans Opoku, disclosed that he was alerted to the outbreak shortly after electricity was restored to parts of the Ashanti Region following a temporary power outage on Sunday evening.
Personnel from the Nkawie and Twedie Fire Stations were promptly deployed to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze.
However, despite their efforts, the six victims, whose charred bodies have since been identified by police, could not be saved.
Authorities are arranging to deposit the remains at the morgue as probes into the circumstances surrounding the fire continue.
