Leadership is fleeting – Mahama urges appointees to show humility

President John Dramani Mahama has urged government appointees to avoid complacency and to exercise their authority with humility, empathy, and a profound sense of responsibility towards the people, emphasizing that leadership is not permanent.

The President delivered this message during his First Anniversary Non-Denominational Thanksgiving Service held at the forecourt of the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

He stressed that thanksgiving should extend beyond mere expressions of gratitude and manifest in a renewed dedication to ethical governance, national unity, and serving the vulnerable.

President Mahama highlighted that the coming year would challenge the resolve, patience, and discipline of leaders, while also providing chances to advance ongoing reforms and hasten national development.

He underscored that leadership is a temporary trust, urging appointees to rededicate themselves to selfless service for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

“Let us move forward with humility, let us lead with empathy, and let us govern with courage. My brothers and sisters, the year ahead will demand even more from us. It will test our resolve, patience, and discipline.

“It will also offer us opportunities. Opportunities to deepen the reforms we have started, to accelerate our growth and ensure development and progress touch every part of our country. Let us never forget that leadership is stewardship. It is temporary and fleeting. Authority is a fleeting trust held on behalf of the people,” he stated.
