The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana) is set to mark its 5th anniversary with a special celebration at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on Monday, January 19, 2026.

The event, themed “Enhancing Safety: The Role of Accident Investigation on Aviation Safety in Ghana,” will commence promptly at 10:00 AM and will feature Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Minister for Transport, as the Guest of Honour.

Hosted by Mr. John M.K. Wumborti, Acting Commissioner for AIB Ghana, the anniversary will also include a keynote address by Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Acting Director General for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), serving as the Guest Speaker.

The celebration aims to highlight the bureau’s achievements over the past five years in promoting aviation safety through thorough investigations and preventive measures. Partners for the event include the Banjul Accord Group Aviation Safety Oversight Organisation (BAGASOO) and other stakeholders in the aviation sector.

The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana) is an independent body established under the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau Act, 2020 (Act 1028), which was assented to in October 2020. It became operational in 2021, succeeding an earlier Accident Investigation Board that operated within the Ministry of Aviation under the Ghana Civil Aviation Act, 2004 (Act 678), as amended.

The bureau’s primary mandate is to investigate aircraft accidents and incidents, prevent future occurrences through safety recommendations, regulate related activities, and oversee the overall management of aviation safety in Ghana, in alignment with international standards such as those from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

It operates as an agency under the Ministry of Transport and is overseen by a Commissioner, with John M.K. Wumborti currently serving in an acting capacity, and collaborates with entities like the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and regional bodies such as the Banjul Accord Group Aviation Safety Oversight Organisation (BAGASOO).
