DV plates cost GH¢417.25 – DVLA boss

The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has clarified that the official cost of a DV vehicle registration plate is GH¢417.25.

This comes amid growing public complaints about inflated prices charged by unauthorised intermediaries, often referred to as “goro boys and girls,” who reportedly sell the plates for between GH¢1,300 and GH¢1,500, leaving many vehicle owners frustrated.

In a Facebook post on February 4, Mr Kotey addressed the concerns directly, stating: “The official price for a DV plate is GH¢417.25. Please note that the DVLA currently restricts issuance exclusively to registered car dealerships and recognised garages.”

He explained that the restriction on issuance is part of ongoing measures to streamline the registration process, enhance control, eliminate unauthorised practices, and protect applicants from exploitation by middlemen.

The DVLA boss emphasised that the fixed price of GH¢417.25 applies when obtaining the plate through the authorised channels, dismissing reports of significantly higher charges as unofficial and exploitative.
