The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that six people have died and seven others were injured following a tragic fire accident involving a petrol tanker and multiple vehicles on the Accra-Nsawam highway near Okanta.
According to GNFS, the fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 14, 2026. The incident resulted in the deaths of six individuals: three people died at the scene, while three others succumbed to their injuries later at the Koforidua Regional Hospital.
In a press release dated February 16, 2026, signed by Ignatius K. Baidoo, Divisional Officer III (DO III) and Eastern Regional Officer of the GNFS, it was stated that three victims — two males and one female — tragically died at the scene. Their badly burnt bodies were handed over to the police for preservation and in-depth investigation.
The statement further emphasized that a total of 15 casualties were recorded (11 males and 4 females).
The GNFS has not yet released additional details on the cause of the accident or the identities of the victims, but investigations are ongoing. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially when approaching heavy-duty vehicles carrying flammable substances on major highways.
