The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that two Ghanaian soldiers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were critically injured after their battalion position came under missile attack in southern Lebanon.

In an official press release issued on March 6, 2026, the Ghana Armed Forces stated that the Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) Headquarters was struck by two missile attacks between 1745 and 1752 hours local time.

According to the statement, the incident occurred as a fallout from ongoing exchanges between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah in the region.

According to the release signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General Public Relations, two soldiers sustained critical injuries, while one other was traumatised. The Officers’ Mess facility was also hit and completely burnt down.

The injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are described as stable. Arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital.

GAF assured the public that troops remain safe in underground bunkers amid the fragile security situation and urged calm.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has lodged a protest over the incident at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

It has urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect their responsibilities regarding the safety of peacekeepers in the UNIFIL area of operations.

The release emphasized that the attack highlights the risks faced by Ghanaian troops deployed under UNIFIL, who contribute to maintaining peace along the Blue Line amid heightened Middle East tensions.

Ghana has maintained a significant presence in UNIFIL for years, with the Ghana Battalion playing a key role in monitoring the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon.

No further details on the source of the missiles were provided in the statement.
