Police in the Bono East Region have arrested a 48-year-old tricycle (Aboboyaa) rider after an accident in Techiman led to the discovery of 397 slabs of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis concealed in charcoal bags.

The incident occurred on Monday, March 8, 2026, at approximately 14:00 hours near the Techiman Methodist Park.

According to a press release from the Bono East Regional Police Command, officers responded to reports of an accident involving an unregistered Motor King tricycle ridden by one Robert Tannor, 48, a rickshaw rider popularly known as Aboboyaa.

The tricycle, which was carrying 14 bags of charcoal, collided with a stationary Kia Rhino truck. The impact caused the charcoal bags to spill, revealing compressed slabs of the suspected narcotic substance hidden inside.

Police immediately secured the scene and recovered a total of 397 slabs of the dried plant material suspected to be cannabis from the bags.

The suspect, Robert Tannor, sustained severe leg injuries in the crash and was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman for treatment. He remains under police guard at the facility while assisting with investigations.

The driver of the Kia Rhino truck involved in the collision sped off from the scene and is currently at large. The Bono East Regional Police are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the fleeing driver to aid ongoing investigations.

The suspected cannabis slabs have been retrieved as evidence, and further investigations are underway to determine the origin, destination, and possible network behind the consignment.
