The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has boldly declared that no parliamentary seat held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be safe in the 2028 general elections, as the party intensifies preparations to reclaim political dominance.
Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, made the assertion on Wednesday, March 18, while addressing executives of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) at the Parliament House.
He expressed confidence that if elections were held today, the NPP would command a parliamentary majority, but stressed that achieving and sustaining such a position would demand relentless hard work, discipline, loyalty, and deep voter engagement.
“If elections are held today, NPP will be the majority, but that will also require hard work and loyalty. We do not doubt our minds that you will take up the mantle,” he stated.
The Effutu MP used the occasion to criticise the ruling NDC administration, accusing it of failing to honour several key campaign promises. He specifically pointed to the much-touted 24-hour economy policy, which he said had not materialised, as well as the government’s inability to increase cocoa producer prices and the recent hikes in utility tariffs as clear indicators of underperformance.
Afenyo-Markin also dismissed narratives suggesting that the NPP marginalises certain ethnic groups, insisting that the party remains fully inclusive and is committed to representing every Ghanaian irrespective of background, tribe, or region.
“The only condition is your loyalty, your commitment to its cause and your hard work,” he told the TESCON leaders, reiterating the NPP’s open-door policy to all who share its vision.
Reinforcing the party’s posture ahead of 2028, the Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Samuel Awuku, declared that the NPP would contest every single NDC-held seat without exception.
“We will be joining our colleagues to storm the campuses. The 2028 election is all play, all play, no NDC seat is safe. We will approach every NDC seat like a normal seat,” Awuku said.
