The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has urged the government to suspend the current teacher recruitment exercise, pointing to what it describes as unfair and alarming conditions for trainee teachers.
At a press conference on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the association included the suspension among five key demands, cautioning that failure to act could trigger nationwide demonstrations.
TTAG further explained that the restricted number of vacancies, about 7,000, has intensified the situation for many trained teachers who have remained at home for years without employment.
“This situation has deepened the woes of teachers who have been at home for years,” the association added, “and the current arrangement risks sidelining many qualified graduates.”
TTAG warned that it would not hesitate to mobilise its members across the country if government fails to stop the process after the expiration of its ultimatum.
The association is calling on government to involve stakeholders and execute a fairer allocation mechanism that reflects the growing number of trained teachers entering the system each year.
