The Nkusukum Traditional Council in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region has imposed a ban on the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Dr. Ebenezer Arhin, barring him from the traditional area.
Thirty-two divisional and sub-chiefs under the Council unanimously took the decision after accusing the MP of disrespecting the paramount chief and undermining the authority of the traditional stool.
The chiefs, clad in red and black attire, performed traditional rituals by pouring libation to invoke the gods of the land against the MP should he defy the ban. They warned that Dr. Arhin is prohibited from stepping foot on the land or attending any traditional functions within the Nkusukum Traditional Area.
Addressing a press conference at the palace, the Paramount Chief of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, Nana Okesse Essandoh IX, said several attempts were made to engage the MP on issues including ongoing projects and other community matters, but he allegedly ignored all invitations.
“As we speak, the MP has not honoured our traditional calls. Nananom will plead with President John Mahama to call his MP to order,” the Paramount Chief stated.
Nana Okesse Essandoh IX declared that the entire Nkusukum Traditional Council no longer recognises Dr. Ebenezer Arhin as the Member of Parliament for the area.
“From today going, the entire Nkusukum Traditional Council, led by me, the Omanhene, no longer recognizes you, Dr. Ebenezer Arhin, as our MP and do not think you will ever set foot in any divisional and sub-chief’s palace within my traditional area,” he warned.
The Paramount Chief further cautioned that the Council would actively work to ensure Dr. Arhin loses the Mfantseman parliamentary seat in the 2028 elections if he continues to disrespect the traditional authority.
“The Council will ensure that Dr. Arhin loses the 2028 Mfantseman constituency MP seat. He will be a one-term MP if he chooses to challenge us,” he added.
The Gyaasehene, Nana Badu, led the invocation of the gods during the ceremony to sanction the MP for his alleged disrespect to the Nkusukum traditional stool.
