A fire outbreak at the Bosomtwi-Sam Fishing Harbour in Sekondi in the Western Region has destroyed a premix fuel station, two vehicles and parts of the facility’s offices and ice rooms.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, is alleged to have been triggered by a minor landslide caused by heavy rainfall in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the downpour caused part of the hilly terrain surrounding the fishing harbour to give way, resulting in the collapse of an electricity pole onto the premix fuel storage facility.
The impact is said to have sparked a fire that rapidly spread, destroying two vehicles and sections of the station’s offices and ice rooms.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control.
Speaking to Citi News after the fire was extinguished, DO3 Emmanuel Bonney of the Western Regional Fire Command disclosed that firefighters succeeded in putting out the flames shortly before 8:00 p.m.
He added that investigations have commenced to establish the exact cause of the fire.
No casualties have been reported.
