Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has cautioned the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) against any attempt to breach established parliamentary protocols in its dealings with lawmakers.
According to Mr Dafeamekpor, Parliament will resist any action that undermines the cordial relationship between the legislature and other state institutions.
He said this in connection with allegations that Hon. Baffour Awuah may have committed an offence for which EOCO requires his presence.
Mr Dafeamekpor stressed that while any alleged offence must be dealt with according to the law, the appropriate constitutional procedures must be followed.
“If Hon. Baffour Awuah is alleged to have committed any offence for which EOCO requires his presence, by all means, let the law speak, but let the law follow lawful procedure under Article 117,” he said.
His comments come as Parliament hosts the ECOWAS Parliament for a major conference at Parliament House in Accra.
Mr Dafeamekpor warned that procedural improprieties involving state institutions could affect Ghana’s reputation.
“Such casual cases or procedural improprieties hurt the sterling image of Ghana here and abroad,” he said.
He further called on all institutions involved to be guided by established constitutional and parliamentary procedures.
The Majority Chief Whip maintained that Parliament would protect the protocols governing its relationship with other institutions while ensuring that lawful processes are respected.
