Manchester City’s captain, Ilkay Gundogan has completed a move to Spanish side Barcelona as a free agent after signing a two-year contract valid until 2025 with a further option to stay worth 400 million euros.
The Catalan club has officially published his move in a statement on their website.
“FC Barcelona and Ilkay Gündoğan have reached an agreement for the German international to sign for the Catalans now that his contract with Manchester City has ended. He will join for two seasons, through to 30 June 2025, with the option to stay for one more year. His buyout clause has been set at 400 million euros.
The club shall shortly be announcing the details of his official presentation.” The statement read.
The German international makes his move to beef up the midfield deficit in Barcelona following the exit of Sergio Busquets.
Barca’s Manager, Xavi, looks forward to increasing the attack of the team as the new Champions League signee, Gundogan comes with the attacking feature to support the strikers coupled with his ability to score goals and assist.
Gündogan joins Barça as their third signing of the summer transfer window after they signed Iñigo Martinez and the awaiting of promising young Brazilian Vitor Roque, who is tipped to sign until 2029.
Manchester city thanked the star for his contribution to the team and confirmed his mov to Barcelona.

The 32- year-old has won it all with Manchester City, as he made 304 appearances in all competitions following his seven-year stay at the Etihad as Pep Guardiola’s first signing.
He contributed 60 goals and 40 assists, leading to a tremendous 14 titles Wich include 5 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League, 2 FA Cups, 4 EFL cups, and 2 community shields.
He has extended his gratitude to Pep an his fellow teammates.
