Solksjaer admits Ronaldo’s return went wrong

Ex-Manchester United manager Ole Gunner Solksjaer has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United in 2021 was a wrong signing after his dismissal two years ago.

He opened up on lots of issues surrounding his coaching career, especially at Manchester United, in an interview with Andy Mitten of the Athletic, and he spelled out that Ronaldo’s return “turned out to be wrong”.

He stated that he was optimistic about the star’s return, though the decision was hard to turn down.

“Bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back was a decision that was difficult to turn down, and I felt we had to take it, but it turned out wrong”.

“It felt so right when he signed and the fans felt that at Newcastle game when Old Trafford was… rocking!”.

Ole Gunner Solksjaer returned to Manchester United as manager for the 2019–2021 season where he nearly clinched the UEFA Europa trophy which Villarreal denied in a penalty shootout.

He had nightmares in the latter part of his coaching career at Old Trafford as the fans clamored for his dismissal over the team’s underwhelming performance.

Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford after he spent twelve years with Spanish and Serie A sides Real Madrid and Juventus, but his stay turned sour as expectations of the striker weren’t met, which led to the team being relegated to the UEFA Europa League.

His two-season deal ended abruptly after an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan sparked controversies, which led to his exit from the Saudi Pro League.

However, his stay with United was impressive given his age, as he netted 27 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils.
