A-Plus clears air on allegations against Attorney General, apologizes for harsh words

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has issued an official statement to address what he describes as a “misunderstanding” between himself and the Attorney General, Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine.

In the statement, A-Plus firmly denied ever accusing Dr. Ayine of corruption or theft, clarifying that a fake Twitter (X) account impersonating him was responsible for spreading those claims.

According to the MP, although the fraudulent account bears his name, photo, and even a verification badge, it is not under his control. He emphasized that the impersonator’s post, which went viral and became a reference point during the Attorney General’s recent press conference, is false and misleading.

“My official remarks regarding the passage of the sanitation levy remain available on my verified Facebook page. I never used the words corrupt or thief,” A-Plus stated.

He urged the public to disregard the fake account and refer to his official page for accurate information.

Responding to Dr. Ayine’s invitation to answer questions about an alleged scandal involving the National Service Secretariat (NSS), A-Plus distanced himself from the matter. He asserted that he has no dealings with the NSS and has never received any payments or been involved in any attempts to suppress investigations.

He admitted that the only connection he had was when, in November 2024, a man sought his help to clear his name through media channels, a move he insists was not an effort to interfere but rather to ensure fairness.

A-Plus also defended his record of supporting individuals across political divides who face public accusations. He cited his past public support for Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, whom he described as a man of integrity. “I do not believe there is anything wrong with supporting another individual to tell their side of a story—regardless of their political affiliation,” he said.

While rejecting the claims against him, A-Plus expressed empathy for Dr. Ayine’s frustration over the impersonation account’s offensive remarks. However, he lamented his inability to control such fake accounts on social media.

In a candid admission, A-Plus acknowledged that his own Facebook response to the Attorney General’s comments was poorly worded. He apologized for the tone and language used, offering a sincere apology to Dr. Ayine, the public, the NDC party, and Parliament.

“I take full responsibility for my words and actions. As a gesture of remorse and respect, I have deleted the post in question—something I rarely do,” he added.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption alongside President John Dramani Mahama’s administration but called for such efforts to be carried out with “integrity, fairness, and mutual respect.”
