A 29-year-old contract staff of GCB Bank Plc, Samuel Owusu, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court on charges of stealing GH¢490,400 from customers at the bank’s Abossey Okai branch.
According to a GNA report, Owusu, who worked as an electronic collector, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Priscilla Avorgah, informed the court that the complainant is the Manager of Security and Fraud at GCB Bank Plc.
According to the prosecution, Owusu was responsible for collecting cash from customers and depositing it into their accounts using a dedicated phone provided by the bank.
A preliminary audit conducted on October 29, 2025, uncovered that GH¢490,400 had been diverted from several customer accounts.
When confronted by the branch manager and his supervisor, Owusu admitted to stealing the funds between February and October 2025.
He reportedly claimed the money was invested in an online trading platform called “qadatralife.com” in an attempt to generate profits.
Owusu explained in his caution statement to the police that he did not take the entire amount at once but gradually withheld customer deposits over the period.
Following his admission, he was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigations.
The case has been adjourned, with Owusu remanded into custody pending the next hearing.
