Former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has been remanded into the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven days, until May 13, 2025.
The trial judge, His Lordship John Eugene Nyadi Nyante remanded him during an in-camera consequential hearing, following the presentation of evidence by Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine at the Accra High Court.
Dr. Ayine argued that intelligence reports suggested the accused had attempted to interfere with witnesses involved in the ongoing prosecution.
During an earlier hearing on April 30, 2025, both the Attorney General and counsel for Adu-Boahene Samuel Atta Kyea presented arguments regarding the alleged witness tampering. Judgment on the matter was then deferred to May 2, 2025.
Despite counter arguments by Adu-Boahene’s lawyer, Samuel Atta Kyea, who insisted that his client had no intention of tampering with witnesses, the court upheld the Attorney General’s plea and ruled to remand Adu-Boahene, suspending his bail.
The judge emphasized that the decision seeks to strike a balance between protecting the rights of the accused and allowing the prosecution sufficient time to finalize its witness statements.
Meanwhile, the two other accused persons in the case, Angela Adjei-Boateng, the wife of Adu-Boahene, and Mildred Donkor, a former banking relations officer who faces 11 counts of offences with Adu-Boahene been granted bail.
Dr. Ayine also disclosed that Adu-Boahene is under separate investigation in connection with Ghana Water Limited, suggesting that the former intelligence chief could face additional legal scrutiny in the coming weeks
