Prospectus Ghana Limited, operators of the EduPack initiative, has clarified that its package for newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students is not compulsory, but says it is a necessary option for parents seeking convenience, quality and standardised boarding essentials for their wards.
The clarification follows concerns raised by parents and the National Council of Parents-Teachers Associations (NCPTA) over communications suggesting that parents were required to purchase the EduPack package for their children.
Speaking at the commencement of the distribution of EduPack items to various schools as part of the ongoing 2026 SHS admission process, Chief Operations Officer of Prospectus Ghana Limited, Evelyn Sarpong, said the initiative was introduced to provide parents with an easier way of acquiring some of the key items required for boarding students.
She stressed that parents remained free to procure the items themselves.
“It is not compulsory; however, we deem it necessary that parents get the EduPack for their wards because we want to help eliminate the issue of bed bugs in our schools,” she said.
According to her, the initiative is also intended to reduce the pressure on parents who would otherwise have to move from one market to another in search of the various items required for their children’s admission.
“We also want to help parents reduce the stress of moving from market to market to get the items needed for the admission of their wards,” she added.
Ms Sarpong said EduPack was further designed to promote standardisation while ensuring that parents receive quality and durable products.
“We also want to help bring standardisation in the system while ensuring quality and durable products that last and assures convenience for parents and their wards,” she said.
The EduPack package currently comprises four main boarding essentials: a metal trunk or suitcase, plastic provision/chop box, Mackintosh-covered mattress and Mackintosh-covered pillow.
The initiative was launched in February 2026 by Prospectus Ghana with support from the GES, with the company saying the items would be delivered directly to participating schools before students report. The arrangement is intended to allow students to travel with only their personal effects rather than transporting bulky boarding items themselves.
Prospectus Ghana’s current ordering platform lists the full EduPack at GH¢1,617, following a price adjustment effective September 7, 2026. Parents can make a full payment or use flexible payment options, including four instalments of GH¢355. The company also allows parents to make partial payments through its online platform.
Payments can be made through mobile money, bank channels or the company’s online platform, while registration requires details of the student and parent or guardian. The company says orders are linked to the student and can follow the student to whichever school the student is placed in.
The Ghana Education Service released the 2026/2027 National Harmonised Prospectus on September 3, outlining the essential items required for SHS and Senior High Technical School students and calling for adherence to the requirements to promote a consistent and standardised admission process nationwide.
Prospectus Ghana notes that EduPack is a GES approved optional service intended to simplify the procurement and delivery of selected items on the harmonised prospectus, rather than a mandatory requirement for admission.
The company says its distribution model is aimed at ensuring that parents receive the selected items when their wards report to school while addressing concerns about product quality, durability, standardisation and the transportation of bulky items during the admission period.
