Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson is the preferred candidate of 55% of National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates who believe the party should elect an economist to contest the 2028 presidential election against New Patriotic Party flagbearer (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, according to Global InfoAnalytics.
The latest poll, conducted between September 11 and 13, 2026, found that 56% of NDC delegates supported the idea of electing an economist to face Dr Bawumia, while 20% disagreed and 24% had no opinion.
Among those who supported the proposal, Dr Ato Forson was preferred by 55%, compared with 22% for NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah. Another 23% were undecided.
Among delegates who disagreed with the proposal, 65% preferred Mr Asiedu Nketiah, while 16% chose Dr Ato Forson and 19% were undecided.
The poll showed a slight change from July, when 58% of delegates supported the idea of the NDC electing an economist, 23% disagreed and 19% had no opinion.
