The Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has assured the public that the ongoing decongestion exercise is not a nine-day wonder but a sustained effort to ensure that roads and public spaces are cleared. The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Adentan Municipal Assembly, Ella Esiman Nongo, has confirmed the tragic loss of three lives, including a four-year-old girl, in the aftermath of a three-hour torrential downpour that caused devastating floods across Accra on May 18, 2025. The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has apprehended 2,241 foreign nationals in a coordinated swoop across 11 zones in Accra as part of efforts to repatriate undocumented individuals. The swoop, conducted in the early hours of the day, was sanctioned by the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service. It aimed to clear the streets of Accra of foreign beggars, dismantle criminal networks, and repatriate all undocumented individuals involved.
