Chief Inspector under investigation over alleged ownership of Asafo structures used for prostitution

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into allegations that a Chief Inspector stationed in the region owns unauthorised wooden structures at Asafo BB in Kumasi, which were allegedly rented out to commercial sex workers.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 10, 2026, the Command said it had commenced investigations into the claims, stressing that the allegations are being treated with the seriousness they deserve.

According to the statement, the officer is alleged to have owned the structures and leased them to commercial sex workers.

“The Command assures the public that updates on the outcome of the investigations will be communicated as the process progresses,” the statement said.

The investigation follows allegations by the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, who claimed that some serving police officers own unauthorised structures at Asafo that have allegedly been used for prostitution and the sale of illegal drugs.

The Mayor made the allegations after the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) carried out a demolition exercise on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Asafo, behind the COCOBOD building.

According to him, some of the structures demolished during the exercise were allegedly owned by police officers and had been converted into centres for prostitution and other illicit activities.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command says investigations are ongoing to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
