Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has stated that the legal challenges he is currently facing will not prevent him from contesting for the party’s National Chairmanship position.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Monday, June 8, 2026, Wontumi said he remains eligible to contest and has always complied with legal processes whenever he is required to appear before the courts.

“I am law-abiding and go to court anytime I am needed. I don’t think the court cases bar me from contesting,” he said.

He declined to comment extensively on matters currently before the courts, stressing that judicial proceedings should be left to the appropriate authorities.

“Everyone knows I don’t run away from questions. But at the same time, I don’t want to bring a courtroom issue to radio. It’s a judicial matter, so I’ll leave it for the judges and the courts,” he stated.

The NPP stalwart also rejected allegations linking him to illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.

“Everyone knows the people who do galamsey. I don’t do galamsey,” he said.

Chairman Wontumi reiterated his loyalty to the NPP, noting that he has remained committed to the party throughout his political career and is determined to help the party reclaim power in the 2028 general elections.

“I have never been disloyal to the NPP. I do my job diligently and I love the party. My mission is to lead the NPP to victory,” he said.

Outlining his vision for the position, Wontumi said he would prioritise service to party members and strengthen the party’s structures across the country if elected National Chairman.

“When I am given the mandate, I will serve and not be served. I will move across all the regions and constituencies to solve problems, give hope and support members so that our flagbearer becomes the next President of the Republic of Ghana,” he stated.

He further argued that the legal challenges confronting him have only strengthened his determination to pursue the position.

“My court trial will not stop my ambition to become National Chairman. If anything, it has strengthened my resolve and made me even more popular,” he said.

Expressing confidence in his chances, Wontumi maintained that he remains focused on winning the race and helping the NPP return to power in 2028.

“I am focused and determined to win the election and lead the NPP to victory in 2028. Nothing can stop me from becoming the NPP’s National Chairman. My strength is with God,” he added.
