Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, is now in the custody of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service as authorities prepare for her to commence her 10-year prison sentence.
This follows her extradition from the United States and arrival in Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Accra High Court convicted and sentenced Tamakloe-Attionu in absentia in April 2024. In July 2024, the Government of Ghana formally submitted an extradition request to the United States.
After more than two years of legal proceedings in the US, American authorities notified Ghana in January 2026 of their decision to surrender her. She was subsequently extradited and arrived in the country on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
“Officials of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service have taken her into custody and are making the necessary preparations for her to begin her sentence,” the Minister stated.
Meanwhile, the Attorney-General according to the government spokesperson is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts at the United States Department of Justice on all pending extradition requests between the two countries.
Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted on charges including causing financial loss to the state and stealing public funds during her tenure as MASLOC CEO between 2013 and 2016.
