Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have allegedly assaulted a journalist from the Class Media Group while he was covering a confrontation at the Kasoa New Market following a major fire outbreak.
The incident reportedly occurred when the reporter was filming an exchange between firefighters and traders at the scene of the blaze. Sources indicate that the journalist was attacked as he attempted to record the confrontation.
Reports also suggest that some residents present at the market were similarly assaulted during the altercation.
A viral video of the incident shows a couple of the fire officers swinging at an individual believed to be the said journalist.
The confrontation comes in the wake of a devastating fire that ravaged parts of the Kasoa New Market on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
According to the GNFS, fire tenders from the Kasoa and Weija Fire Stations were promptly dispatched to the scene to battle the inferno and prevent it from spreading further.
Authorities are yet to provide details on the cause of the fire or the extent of damage caused to the market.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has condemned the attack describing it as unacceptable.
The minister in a Facebook post on Monday afternoon announced that action will be taken against the officers involved.
”The attack on Class Media Group’s Samuel Addo by some personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service is most unacceptable and I condemn same. Firm action will be taken against the rogue elements who carried out this attack,” he wrote.
