The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah, Head of Mobilization for pressure group Democracy Hub, over allegations of making false claims linking three regional ministers to illegal mining (galamsey).
In a press release issued by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the police stated that Yeboah was arrested following a formal petition submitted by Daniel Sasu Omari on behalf of the Ashanti, Eastern, and Western Regional Ministers.
“The suspect is in custody and will be put before the court tomorrow, Thursday, 27th November 2025,” the statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, CID Public Relations Officer, read.
The arrest follows public statements made by Yeboah accusing the three regional ministers of involvement in galamsey activities.
Both Yeboah and the radio station that hosted him had earlier issued separate apologies and retractions, while Democracy Hub distanced itself from the claims.
Lead convener of Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, had earlier announced the arrest on social media, alleging that police informed Yeboah he was being held “on the orders of Government.”
The police, however, made no mention of any governmental directive in their official statement.
Yeboah is expected to be arraigned on Thursday.
