The Ghana Armed Forces has cleared more than half of the right of way for the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway, achieving a major milestone in the project’s preparatory phase.
As of June 25, 2026, a total of 89.5 kilometres — representing 50.9% of the 175.6km corridor — has been cleared, the GAF said in an update.
Project coordinator Col Alex Twumasi said the entire clearing and stripping exercise, covering a 120-metre width, is scheduled to be completed in 20 weeks. He noted that over 50% of the work has been done within just nine weeks.
“The GAF Engineers have been tasked with executing one of the most important phases of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project, and that is clearing and stripping the right of way,” Col Twumasi stated.
He expressed confidence that the remaining 86.1 kilometres will be completed within the next 13 weeks, paving the way for the start of major construction works on the flagship project.
The Accra–Kumasi Expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Ghana’s two largest cities, ease congestion on the current route, and improve the movement of people and goods.
