GoldBod Jewellery, a subsidiary of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has been recognised for its pioneering efforts in transforming Ghana’s gold sector through local value addition and innovation.

The company received the Public Sector Value Addition and Gold Industry Innovation Excellence Award at the Africa Governments Summit & Public Sector Innovation Awards 2026, held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Accra Marriott Hotel in Accra.

The award honours GoldBod Jewellery’s commitment to innovation, responsible processing, and creating greater domestic value from Ghana’s abundant gold resources and highlights the organisation’s role in shifting Ghana from primarily exporting raw gold to producing high-quality, handcrafted finished products locally, a key step in reducing reliance on imported jewellery and boosting foreign exchange retention.

The Africa Governments Summit & Public Sector Innovation Awards serves as a premier platform for recognising excellence in public sector transformation, governance, and institutional innovation across the continent.

The event convened policymakers, public sector leaders, innovators, and development partners to discuss strategies for enhancing efficiency, accountability, and performance in African governments.

In attendance and delivering the opening keynote address was Abena Osei-Asare, Member of Parliament for Atiwa East and former Deputy Finance Minister, who emphasised the importance of strong institutions, transparency, and innovative leadership in driving Africa’s development agenda.

GoldBod Jewellery, operating under the Ghana Gold Board, the sole authority mandated to buy, sell, assay, refine, and export gold in Ghana, has focused on downstream activities, including the launch of an e-commerce platform, nationwide showrooms, and the production of exquisite, ethically sourced gold jewellery and investment tablets by Ghanaian artisans.

The subsidiary’s initiatives align with broader national goals of formalising the gold value chain, promoting traceability, sustainability, and responsible mining while positioning Ghana as a competitive player in global jewellery markets.

Managing Director of GoldBod Jewellery, Gertrude Emefa Donkor Esq., has previously described the company’s rebranding and retooling efforts as a deliberate move to place Ghanaian craftsmanship on the world stage alongside leading luxury brands.
