The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new applications for Tier 1 and Tier 2 gold buying licences, as well as the Self-Financing Aggregator Licence, effective immediately.
In a press release issued on February 16, 2026, GoldBod described the suspension as a key step in ongoing strategic reforms aimed at modernising and strengthening Ghana’s gold trading and buying regime.
“The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the immediate suspension of applications for specific categories of gold buying licences as part of a strategic reform process aimed at strengthening and modernising Ghana’s gold buying regime,” the statement read.
The Board clarified that the general Aggregator Licence remains open for new applications and is not affected by the suspension.
GoldBod further assured existing applicants and stakeholders that all licence applications submitted before the announcement would continue to be processed without interruption.
“GoldBod wishes to assure all stakeholders that applications already submitted prior to this announcement will continue to be processed,” it added.
The reforms are expected to promote greater transparency, improve compliance with regulations, enhance traceability in the gold value chain, and ensure that Ghana derives maximum national benefit from its gold resources.
GoldBod indicated that more detailed information on the revised licensing framework and other reform measures would be communicated to the public and stakeholders in due course.
