Government freezes new security service applications for 2027
The government will not accept new applications for recruitment into Ghana’s security services in 2027 as it prioritises qualified candidates who were left out of previous recruitment exercises due to limited training capacity.
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, said the recruitment portal would remain closed to new applicants next year while the government works to clear the backlog of candidates who passed the recruitment process but could not secure places for training.
He said the decision followed a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to give priority to applicants who had already met the recruitment requirements.
Mr Muntaka made the announcement when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
“Next year, there will be no new applicants. We are not going to open the portal based on the President’s instructions. We are not going to open the portal for fresh applications,” he said.
He explained that the government would continue selecting qualified candidates from the existing list until the backlog was cleared.
“Those who have already applied, gone through and passed the process and qualified to have gone for training but space didn’t allow are the ones we will pick,” he added.
The minister said fresh applications would only be allowed after the existing list of qualified candidates had been exhausted.
The decision means prospective applicants hoping to join the security services in 2027 will have to wait, while candidates who have already qualified will be considered for enlistment as training spaces and vacancies become available.
