Government Set To Meet Labour Groups Today Over COLA

The government of Ghana will today, July 12, 2022 meet leadership of the various teacher unions, Ghana Medical Association(GMA) and other organized labour groups in the country over the payment of the Cost Of Living Allowances(COLA) to some government employees.

Today’s meeting is nececited by an initial meeting between government and the four(4) teacher labour unions who are currently on strike over the same COLA last week which ended unsuccessfully.

In attendance of the said meeting which proved futile were representative from the Ministry of Finance, the CEO of Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Director-General of Ghana Education Service, Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Minister of Employment and Labour Relations.

The Ghana Medical Association(GMA) is the latest organized labour that have threatened government to pay its members 20% of their basic salaries as COLA.

According to the GMA, the prevailing economic conditions in the country have necessitated their demand in order to cushion it’s members.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of the association, Dr. Justice Yankson has iterated the GMA’s full participation in the negotiation meeting today.
